Samuel Bates Carson, 78, passed away on Sunday, March 3, 2019, at North MS Medical Center Hospice after a short illness. He was born on January 17, 1941, in Plantersville to Louis Fletcher and Mable Young Carson. Samuel had lived most all of his life in Lee County, was a graduate of Nettleton High School & attended I.C.C. in Fulton, was a retired supervisor and designer in the furniture industry, & was a Baptist. He enjoyed singing and playing his guitars, doing remodeling, & camping. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Catherine Vaughn Carson of Tupelo; one daughter, Lesonya Whitehead of Tupelo; two sons, Phil Carson (Kim) of Aberdeen and Ken Carson of Booneville; one stepson, Mike Causey (Patti) of Nettleton; 12 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jimmy and Tommy Carson.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. until time for services at the funeral home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton with the Rev. Doug Westmoreland officiating. Burial will be in Jones Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Carroll Pettigrew, Glen Hester, Cody Carson, Clay Carson, Brody Whitehead, Dylan Earnest. An honorary pallbearer will be coach Jack Carlisle.

    Sammy fought hard these last years and he did also on the football field where l have many fond memories. I am sorry we have another good one.

    I never met Mr. Carson, but, I knew his son Phil, or Dr. Phil as I call him. I”m sorry for the loss of your father, whom I can tell was a good man and left a deep impression on you as his son. I”m sure he will be missed by so many!
