WREN COMMUNITY – Kathryn Maureen “Kitty” Smith, 74, entered into her eternal home on Friday, April 13, 2018 at North MS Medical Center after an extended illness. She was born on June 22, 1943 in Gastonia, N.C. to David Clemmett Parker and Geraldine Perry Gunnells. She had lived most all of her life in Wren and Mantachie, was a medical transcriptionist for Radiology at NMMC in Tupelo, and was a member of North MS Worship Center in Wren. She loved playing board games, cards, watching television, going to church, & being with her family.

After graduating from high school she worked several different jobs before marrying her soldier, John Earl Smith, in Virginia Beach, VA on November 8, 1965. Soon after, they moved to the Philippines during the Vietnam War, where she became a part of the NCO Wives Club (463rd). Kitty, also played pitcher in the wives softball league and from 1974 to 1975, she was part of the 21st Airlifters.

Survivors include one daughter, Dana Tackett (Anthony) of Wren; one son, Tim Smith (Shelley) of Cincinnati, OH; two brothers, Phillip Gunnells (Angie) of Mantachie and Jamie Gunnells (Natalie) of Tupelo; one daughter-in-law, Marlene Smith of Hilliard, FL; father of her children, John E. Smith (Peggy) of Nettleton; ten grandchildren, Belton and Olin Smith, Karlee, Nic, & Zane Tackett, J.D. Smith (Jessie), Ben Smith (Jennifer), & Adam Smith (Amber), Ben Payton, Josh Malcomb; five great grandchildren, Walker, Blake, Jordan, MaKenna, & Scarlett Smith; special friends, Jackie Tackett & Illa Rea Smith, her church family, past and present.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, David Smith; her grandparents; several aunts and uncles; two grandchildren who never took a breath in this world; & several cousins and friends.

Memorial services will be at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the North MS Worship Center in Wren, 30066 Lake Monroe Road, Aberdeen, MS 39730 with Pastor Jimmy Winders, & senior pastors, Dudley and Lucy Nash officiating. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Nettleton will be in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. until time for services, at the church.
